Baby shower games don't necessarily need to be a part of any particular theme, or even have anything to do with babies. As long as they're fun, entertaining and help break the ice, they're worth while. Still, babies will be on everyone's mind, so here are just a few suggestions that revolve around the smaller of the two guests of honor. Just make sure you've got enough prizes for all the winners!
Baby Picture Match Game
This one requires a little prep-work and early guest participation. The invitations should include a request that every guest bring a photograph of themselves as a baby ( preferable at around a year old ). When the guests arrive, take the pictures, but be careful that the guests don't see each others' pictures.
Assign each picture a number. You can use Post-Its or something fancier if you wish. Put the pictures on display and give each guest a pad and pen. The object of the game is to match the correct name of every adult guest to their baby picture. The guest or guests who make the most matches win.
How Big Is That Tummy?
Give each player a magic marker and a length of yarn or ribbon ( if the color matches the other decorations, so much the better ). The players then make a loop as big around as they estimate the mother-to-be's belly to be and mark it on their ribbon. Measure the guest of honor's tummy circumference with another piece of yarn or ribbon and mark it off. The player whose mark comes the closest to the real thing ( without going over ) gets the prize.
Musical Diapers
This one's a little low-brow, but it's good, silly fun. Fill a number of diapers ( or large napkins folded to look like diapers ) with a small amount of candy or little prizes. Make lots of these. Fill one of the diapers with a mixture of chunky peanut butter and lots of chocolate syrup. Pass the diapers around while music plays. After that, it's music chairs. When the music stops, the guest with the "dirty" diaper gets and extra prize. Repeat two or three times, if the players have the stomach for it.
Who Knows Momma Best?
This game requires that the mother-to-be participates in a brief interview before the shower. This information is then uses to make a little quiz. The questions could be anything her friends and family might know about her. What's her favorite song? When's her due date? What weird foods has she been craving since she's been expecting?
Give the quizzes to the players and have them fill them out. Make sure to set a time limit. The player or players who get the most correct answers wins.
Whoops, My Water Broke!
Freeze a medium sized bowl with a small plastic baby-doll in it. Take the ice out of the bowl and place it in a larger, see-through bowl. Have the guests guess when it will melt and write the time down on a little chart. Who ever gets the closest without going over wins. This is an essentially passive activity and a good way for those who don't like games to participate and have a chance to win a prize. Just keep an eye on it so you catch the moment of "birth". Also, let the ice start to melt a little before the shower starts, or it will never melt in before the party is over.
Bottle Ring Toss
Remove the plastic nipple rings from several baby bottles (hopefully the new mom will get some as gifts). Then remove the bottle nipples and arrange them a few inches apart from eachother on a table or on the floor. Have guests take turns trying to toss the rings around one of the nipples. Whoever can get the most on in their turn wins a prize. Start the tosses from just a few feet away, because this one can turn out to be really tough!
Feed the Baby!
This is a great game for showers when there are a lot of couples attending. Buy several large jars of baby food and some baby spoons in advance. Have guests form teams of two and line up across from their partners in a double line. Do a countdown and then have one partner spoon-feed the other baby food as fast as possible. The team that finishes the fastest wins a prize! This great couples baby shower game can sometimes get pretty messy, so you might want to play it in the kitchen or outside on a nice day.
Pass-A-Pacifier
Each guest will need a pencil or pen for this one (plastic utensils can work too). Have the guests put the end of their pen or pencil in their mouths, and use the other end to pass a pacifier around the room by its loop. Whoever drops the pacifier is out. If it is dropped during an exchange, both guests are out. The last two people who haven't dropped the pacifier win a prize. This is an easy and fun baby shower game for any setting!
